New Partnership Aims to Advance Logistics Industry in Georgia
Georgia Ports Authority, Georgia Tech and Georgia Center for Innovation sign MOU
On July 31, the Georgia Ports Authority, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and the Georgia Center of Innovation for Logistics signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Port of Savannah that creates a new relationship aimed at supporting the state’s logistics industry in economic development, research and education.
The MOU focuses on enhancing applied academic research, technological innovation and knowledge dissemination, and on fostering investigation and implementation of next generation integrated port logistics infrastructure, operations planning, and logistics services. A key goal is to help ensure that the GPA network remains efficient in the face of continual change. It is anticipated that the goal will be achieved through implementation of “first of a kind” multi-modal collaborative techniques at the local, regional, and global levels of the logistics ecosystem.
Georgia Tech Professional Education (GTPE), the Institute’s lifelong learning arm that has been providing professional education to adult learners for over a century, offers more than 30 courses and nine certificates in supply chain and logistics to meet the workforce development needs of this industry. Some classes are available online, and GTPE also delivers programs at employer locations. GTPE is based at the Global Learning Center in Atlanta’s Tech Square and in Georgia-Tech Savannah.
