Basic Antenna Concepts - Advanced

Course Description

Basic Antenna Concepts – Advanced is the second part of a two-part series.  The Advanced class provides insight into how we computer simulate antennas, and how we measure the real performance of hardware antennas.  The class includes a live demonstration of an antenna pattern measurement.  It includes a brief introduction into restrictions of use and human safety calculations with real-world examples.  The course concludes with system-level example cases of specifications that drive solutions for the selection and use of antenna systems.

Course Content

MODELING & SIMULATION OF ANTENNAS

  • Overview of M&S approaches and commercially-available software
  • Live Demo of an example antenna modeling process

ANTENNA MEASUREMENTS

  • Overview of measurement techniques
  • Live Demo of an Antenna Pattern Directivity Measurement

ANTENNA SYSTEM APPLICATIONS

  • Presentation of numerous antenna system applications including trades of why certain architectures were selected and their impact on system performance

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for students who have had little exposure to antenna systems.  The class is provided at the undergraduate level and no formal RF nor electrical engineering training is required.  The class is intended to provide an entry into the GTPE Certificate Programs in Antenna Engineering and Phased Array Antenna Engineering.  The class is appropriate for entry-level engineers, technicians, engineers or technical managers who specialized in other disciplines and desire cross-training in antenna systems.
